Lung cancer
Lions Prey
Estimate the likelihood of a lung mass being malignant.
About Lions Prey
Classifying pulmonary lesions by malignancy is sometimes controversial, and a system to predict malignancy helps with decisions about surveillance and treatment. LIONS PREY (Lung lesION Score PREdicts malignancY) is a simple logistic scoring system that estimates the percent chance that a pulmonary nodule is malignant.
It was developed from patients prospectively evaluated by the multidisciplinary team in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Cologne, Germany, with pathology confirmed for every patient. Eight score parameters remained significant after univariate and multivariate analysis.
The score can help less experienced physicians focus on the essential parameters, and it can help patients considering surgery understand the likelihood of malignancy. It was presented at the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) Annual Meeting in Barcelona in October 2021.
Key features
- Percent estimate of malignancy for a pulmonary nodule
- Eight-parameter logistic scoring system
- Based on a prospectively evaluated, pathology-confirmed cohort
Who it is for
Thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists, radiologists, and trainees.
